In reviewing our school’s ethos, we developed Kilmoyle’s 7Cs. These principles guide our teachers in considering what constitutes effective teaching and learning. We have also written them in child friendly language as show below.

Our Pastoral Care Promises – The 7 Cs

The Principal, teachers, and all the adults who work in Kilmoyle Primary and Nursery School make these promises to you, the boys and girls who attend our school: -

We will CARE for you.”

This means we will:-

  • build positive relationships with you.

  • treat you with respect.

  • ensure you feel safe, happy and secure.

  • be fair.

  • treat you as an individual.

We will CONFER with you.”

This means we will:-

  • listen to you.

  • encourage you to share your views.

  • encourage you to work cooperatively with others.

We will try our best to CAPTIVATE your interest.”

This means we will:-

  • be enthusiastic.

  • try to plan lessons which interest you.

  • try to make learning enjoyable.

We will CLARIFY our expectations of you.”

This means we will:-

  • try to explain everything well.

  • assess out how well you understand.

  • help you to improve your learning.

We will take time to CONSOLODATE your learning.”

This means we will:-

  • help you to remember what you have learned.

  • help you to make connections in your learning.

  • get support for you if you need special help with your learning.

We will CHALLENGE you.”

This means we will:-

  • try to make sure you give of your best

  • have high expectations of you.

  • encourage you to develop your thinking skills.

  • encourage you to be creative, to solve problems, and to take risks with your learning.

  • encourage you to persist when learning is challenging.

We will ensure there is good CONTROL in our classroom.”

This means we will:-

  • ensure you have all the resources you need to learn.

  • ensure you are kept busy and do not waste time.

  • encourage you to behave well.

  • acknowledge your good behaviour and help you to realise the consequences of poor behaviour.
